Starbucks Corp.'s Seattle's Best brand is now available in 30,000 locations -- a tenfold increase in six months.
The coffee chain said earlier this year that it planned to revamp the brand by expanding it through franchises and other retailers.
On Thursday, Seattle's best said notable new and expanded distribution relationships include pairings with Subway Restaurants, with more than 20,000 locations in the U.S. and Canada; Burger King, with more than 7,500 locations in the U.S. and Canada; and AMC Theaters, with more than 300 U.S. locations. Mac's, a Toronto-based chain of convenient stores with more than 600 locations, was also cited.
Starbucks acquired Seattle's Best in 2003.
The Seattle-based company has been facing increased competition from lower-priced rivals such as McDonald's Inc., which sells its own brews and other coffee drinks.
Starbucks shares rose 86 cents, or 3.6 percent, to $24.54 in afternoon trading.
