Time Warner Cable chooses remote control vendor

NEW YORK

Cable company Time Warner Cable Inc. said Monday it has chosen primary vendors to supply customer remote controls and backup power supplies.

Universal Remote Control Inc., of Harrison, N.Y., will supply 80 percent of Time Warner Cable's customer remote controls under a contract that runs through 2011. Time Warner Cable said the contract more than doubles Universal's business with the company.

In addition, Alpha Technologies Inc., of Bellingham, Wash., will supply the majority of Time Warner Cable's batteries and power supplies under a one-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed for either contract.

Shares of Time Warner Cable fell 86 cents to close at $52.93.
