Insulet operating chief resigns

Medical device company Insulet Corp. announced Tuesday that Chief Operating Officer Luis Malave has resigned effective Aug. 31.

Malave is leaving to become chief executive officer of Palyon Medical. Insulet said that on an interim basis, his operations duties will be jointly managed by Ruthann DePietro, vice president of quality and regulatory affairs, and Kevin Schmid, vice president of operations and engineering.

DePietro and Schmid will report to Insulet CEO Duane DeSisto.

Insulet, based in Bedford, Mass., specializes in medical devices for people with diabetes.

Insulet shares rose 37 cents, or 2.4 percent, to finish at $15.33 in regular trading Tuesday.
