Icahn Enterprises principal executive resigns

Icahn Enterprises LP, the investing vehicle for billionaire Carl Icahn, said Wednesday its principal executive officer, vice chairman and senior managing director is resigning.

Keith Meister issued a statement, but didn't explain why he was leaving the company after eight years. The company did not immediately return a call seeking more information.

He said he plans on staying in touch with Icahn and the company.

Icahn, in the statement, said he wished Meister luck "as he goes on to pursue other opportunities."

Icahn Enterprises operates in seven primary business segments: investment management, automotive, metals, real estate, home fashion, railcars and food-packaging.

Shares fell 47 cents, or 1.2 percent, to $38.70.
