LOSS DEEPENS: Japan's NEC Corp. posts a bigger quarterly loss amid a slump in its network systems business and after the sale of its chipmaking unit.
BOTTOM LINE: The Tokyo-based electronics maker lost 43.1 billion yen ($490 million) in the April-June quarter, versus a loss of 33.8 billion yen a year earlier. NEC had posted profit in the January-March period -- its first in a year and half -- on a recovery in IT services.
SALES DROP: Sales fell 14 percent to 667.5 billion yen ($7.6 billion). NEC cited the sale of its chip unit, NEC Electronics Corp., and a slump in data connection services.
