EAST MONTPELIER, Vt.
Broadband Internet access throughout Vermont remains elusive three years after lawmakers and Gov. Jim Douglas said that was their goal by 2010.
Now all six gubernatorial candidates are saying they'll continue to push for statewide broadband.
The goal of statewide broadband by 2010 was set in legislation passed in 2007, which also created the Vermont Telecommunications Authority.
The new director of that authority, Christopher Campbell, says he understands the frustration voiced by many Vermonters who still don't have broadband access.
He says the push for broadband has been slowed by the economic downturn and the difficulty that companies are having borrowing money.
