NEW YORK
Federal watchdog agency the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday a pacifier called Karino Baby Pacifiers distributed by Antonio Flores in San Ysidro, Calif., is being recalled because it could present a choking hazard.
About 44,900 units were sold at independent grocery stores in California and Texas for 25 cents between October 2009 and March 2010.
The pacifier, which has the word "Karino" on the handle side of the mouth guard and "Mygra" on one side of the handle, has a nipple that can separate from the base easily. Also the pacifier handle is too long and the mouth guard is too small and there are no ventilation holes on the mouth guard.
It could pose a choking and aspiration hazard to young children, the CPSC said. No injuries have been reported.
Consumers should take the pacifiers away from children and contact Antonio Flores for a refund or exchange.
Consumers can contact the company's recall hotline at (619) 395-4543 or the CPSC recall hotline at (800) 638-2772.
