SC's jobless rate dips to 10.7 percent in June

South Carolina's unemployment rate has dropped to 10.7 percent, but the state also saw the total number of jobs decrease in June.

The Department of Employment and Workforce reported Tuesday that the June unemployment rate was down from a revised 11.1 percent in May. The national rate reported earlier this month also was down slightly at 9.5 percent.

South Carolina's report showed there were 3,000 fewer jobs in the state last month and nearly 10,000 fewer people in the work force.

It was the fourth straight monthly decline in the size of the work force and fifth straight decline in the unemployment rate.

South Carolina has had one of the nation's highest jobless rates for several years, peaking at 12.5 percent in January. It has shown steady improvement since then.
