A northern Nebraska company has been awarded a nearly $4 million loan to expand its produce business.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture loan was announced Monday along with 10 other USDA-guaranteed loans that come from federal stimulus funding.
The USDA says that in O'Neill, Garden Fresh Vegetables will use the money to build a 10-acre greenhouse, creating the opportunity to add an estimated 35 new jobs.
Garden Fresh Vegetables already has 50 full-time and 10 part-time workers, plus seasonal help.
The USDA says several area grocery stores buy the company's produce.
The loans are part of the USDA's Know Your Farmer, Know Your Food initiative, which hopes to create new economic opportunities by promoting local food growers.
