Discover Financial in deal with Serbian network

RIVERWOODS, Ill.

Discover Financial Services said Thursday it agreed to allow consumers in Serbia use its payment network internationally by the end of the year.

DinaCard is the system of national payment cards operated by a division of Serbia's central bank. It has 2.5 million cards in distribution, according to a release by Discover.

Under the agreement, DinaCard card holders will be able to use their cards outside Serbia wherever Discover, Diners Club International and PULSE cards are accepted.

DinaCard users will have their cards replaced on a renewal basis with the Discover, Diners Club International and PULSE identifiers placed on the reverse side.

Discover said the deal will boost transaction volume on its payment networks.

Shares of Discover were up 3 cents to $14.60 in afternoon trading.
