Two New Mexico companies are receiving federal funds for renewable energy projects.
JL Shavings in Tularosa and Restoration Solutions in Corona each was awarded a $350,000 grant through the U.S. Department of Agriculture to help develop innovative uses for woody biomass as a source of renewable energy.
Woody biomass includes trees, woody plants, tree limbs, tops of trees and needles that are byproducts of thinning and other activities to reduce fire dangers in national forests.
The grants were announced by Democratic U.S. Sen. Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico.
