Recording industry spent $1.36M lobbying in 1Q

The Recording Industry Association of America spent $1.36 million in the first quarter to lobby the federal government on a bill that would pay performers royalties for song play on traditional radio stations and other issues, according to a disclosure report.

That's down from the $1.76 million the RIAA spent a year earlier and from the $1.38 million it spent in the fourth quarter of 2009.

The RIAA, the lobbying arm of major recording companies such as Sony Music Entertainment, also lobbied the federal government on legislation involving intellectual property theft in other countries, according to the report it filed on April 19.

In January through March, the RIAA focused its lobbying efforts on Congress, according to the report filed with the House clerk's office.
