Dell unveils state health services operations

Dell Inc., a computer maker and provider of technology services, on Wednesday unveiled a new practice that aims to help states get technologically ready for the requirements of health care reform.

Leading the Dell State Health Services operations is Melissa Boudreault, who was director of the health insurance exchange program in Massachusetts. Dell said the exchange program served as a model for the federal health care reform law.

Under the new law, states are required to set up health care exchanges that let consumers and small businesses choose health insurance.

Dell said it can help states create and maintain an exchange, as well as assist in managing an increase in Medicaid enrollees, among other services.

Shares of Dell, based in Plano, Texas, rose 36 cents, or 2.8 percent, to $13.04 in afternoon trading.
