U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., is repeating his call to limit lobbying in Washington by giving all members of Congress a lifetime ban on lobbying after leaving office.
Bennet on Wednesday introduced the lifetime ban, one of several proposals under consideration to reduce the influence of lobbyists. Bennet's suggestion would affect only current and future members of Congress, not the dozens of former lawmakers who are now working as Washington lobbyists.
Currently, House members have a one-year "cooling-off period" before being allowed to lobby their former colleagues, and senators must wait two years. So far, Bennet has no co-sponsors for his idea to make the ban permanent.
