EU Commission: We must do more to combat hunger

BRUSSELS

The European Union's executive wants the bloc's 27 member nations to do to more to combat hunger in developing nations.

EU estimates show that EU member nations will only give an average of 0.46 percent of Gross Domestic Product to poor countries, falling far short of the 0.53 percent promised as a part of the U.N. Millennium Development Goals.

That percentage is supposed to rise to 0.7 percent by 2015, and the Commission wants clear guidelines to meet that target.
