Ohio city hit hard by DHL move cuts jobs

The southwest Ohio city of Wilmington is cutting jobs and its budget as it continues to reel from the loss of DHL Express's air shipping facility.

Mayor David Raizk (RESK) says layoffs include eight full-time employees, including four firefighters, and reduction of the police department by four positions through attrition. The city is also restructuring some jobs and offering voluntary furloughs.

City council will take a 10 percent pay cut and other officials will double contributions to health insurance.

Raizk says the moves announced Tuesday reflect reduced revenues in the city of nearly 12,000 people.

DHL moved the air shipping operation to the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport last year, costing most of the 8,000 Wilmington Air Park jobs.
