Applied Materials Inc. ramped up its lobbying effort during the last three months of 2009, spending close to a half-million dollars trying to sway lawmakers on energy policy and other issues.
Many corporations spend more on lobbying, but the $470,000 Applied Materials spent in the fourth quarter compares with $150,000 the quarter before and $160,000 in the period a year earlier.
The company provides technology used by solar panel and semiconductor manufacturers.
It lobbied federal agencies on renewable energy provisions of the American Clean Energy & Security Act, the American Clean Energy Leadership Act and the Energy Department appropriations bill. It also lobbied on the issue of tax credits for research and development as well as trade policy with South Korea.
