ECB, EU to help Central Bank of Bosnia-Herzegovina

The European Central Bank and the European Union say they will give technical assistance to the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina to implement standards required to apply to join the EU.

The 18-month program starting April 1 will be funded with euro1 million ($1.37 million) from the EU's Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance -- a facility to help potential member countries prepare to join the EU.

The ECB said in a statement Monday the program will cover areas including statistics, economic analysis and harmonizing legislation and will be supported by experts from national European central banks including Germany's Bundesbank, Nederlandsche Bank and the Banca d'Italia.
