Science Applications receives biomass contract

Defense contractor Science Applications International Corp. said Tuesday it was awarded a contract worth up to $21 million under the government's biomass program.

Science Applications, which is based in McLean, Va., said its subsidiary, R.W. Beck, will serve as the Energy Department's independent engineer, providing support services for integrated ethanol biorefinery pilot and demonstration projects.

The contract will extend through September 2015 and will be valued at a maximum of $21 million.

The biomass program is designed to help develop biomass feedstocks into fuels and power sources.

Shares of Science Applications rose 14 cents to $19.47 in afternoon trading.
