Cigarette maker Altria Group says University of Virginia president John T. Casteen III has been elected to the company's board of directors.
The Richmond, Va.-based owner of Philip Morris USA, which makes the top-selling Marlboro brand, said Monday that it also increased its board from nine to 10 directors.
The 66-year-old Casteen is leaving office Aug. 1 after 20 years as the school's president. After that, he will become president emeritus of the Charlottesville, Va., school.
He currently serves as a director at Sage Publications Inc., Jefferson Science Associates LLC, and the Virginia University Research Partnership Inc. Casteen also is a member of the board of trustees for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
