Shares of some top utilities companies were mixed at the close of trading:

AEP rose $.23 or .7 percent, to $31.62.

ConEd rose $.29 or .7 percent, to $42.46.

Duke Energy rose $.03 or .2 percent, to $16.04.

Pepco Holdings rose $.16 or 1.0 percent, to $15.49.

Southern Co fell $.01 or percent, to $31.58.
