Shares of some top oil companies were up at the close of trading:

Chevron rose $.52 or .7 percent, to $77.94.

ConocoPhillips rose $.61 or 1.2 percent, to $52.83.

Exxon Mobil rose $.57 or .8 percent, to $72.47.

Marathon Oil rose $.27 or .8 percent, to $34.65.
