Shares of some top machinery companies were mixed at the close of trading:

Caterpillar rose $.21 or .4 percent, to $58.78.

Deere rose $.17 or .4 percent, to $47.58.

Manitowoc fell $.04 or .4 percent, to $10.75.

Terex fell $.45 or 2.1 percent, to $21.08.
