Greek August unemployment falls to 9 percent

ATHENS, Greece

Greece's unemployment rate fell to 9 percent in August from 9.6 percent in July, official figures showed Thursday.

The National Statistics Service said the August jobless figure increased from 7.1 percent a year earlier.

The total number of unemployed Greeks was 452,706 in August, 24,001 fewer than in July and 97.979 more than a year earlier.
