Shares of some top gold companies are up at 10 a.m.:

Barrick Gold rose $.77 or 1.8 percent, to $43.90.

Gold Fields rose $.25 or 1.7 percent, to $14.87.

Goldcorp rose $.84 or 1.9 percent, to $44.89.

Newmont Mining rose $1.43 or 2.8 percent, to $51.89.
