Houston's 2 airports set passenger records in 2013

HOUSTON (AP) — More people than ever are passing through Houston's two major airports.

Year-end traffic reports released Tuesday by the Houston Airport System show Hobby Airport was used by 11.1 million travelers in 2013, up more than 6 percent from the previous year. It's the fourth straight year of record use at the airport south of downtown Houston. Hobby's usage is up 34 percent over the past decade.

At Bush Intercontinental Airport on the city's north side, international passenger traffic in 2013 rose to 8.9 million, up 2.5 percent from a year ago and the most in the 45-year history of the airport. Intercontinental sends planes to more places in Mexico than another other U.S. airport.

The two airports combined handled 50.9 million passengers, an increase of 600,000 from 2013.
