Perrigo recalls liquid acetaminophen for infants

ALLEGAN, Mich. (AP) — Drugmaker Perrigo said Friday it is recalling 18 batches of liquid acetaminophen for infants because the oral syringe that comes with the medication may not have dose markings.

Perrigo said it hasn't received any complaints or reports related to the product and hasn't found any syringes with missing dose markings, but it is starting the recall because the markings could be missing from some cases. That would increase the chances of a patient receiving too high a dose.

The recall covers 2-ounce and 4-ounce bottles that are sold in a box that also contains a syringe. They are being sold under store brand labels including Babies R Us, Care One, Equaline, Equate, Harmon Face Values, Health Mart, Healthy Accents, HEB, Kroger, Leader Drug, Meijer, Publix, Rite Aid, Topcare, Up & Up, and Walgreen.

Perrigo Co. said the oral syringe should have a white or yellow plunger with dose markings for 1.25 milliliters, 2.5 milliliters, 3.75 milliliters and 5 milliliters. If the markings are on the syringe it is safe to use. The medication is intended to relieve fever and minor aches and pains.
