Boone buys Picayune Item from CNHI


PICAYUNE, Miss. (AP) — Boone Newspapers Inc. has bought the Picayune Item in Picayune, Miss., and the weekly Poplarville Democrat.

The announcement was made Thursday by Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. of Montgomery, Ala., and Boone, headquartered in Natchez, Miss., and Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

CNHI sold the two newspapers to Picayune Newsmedia LLC, a subsidiary of Carpenter Newsmedia LLC, which is an affiliate of Boone. CNHI has operated the newspapers for more than a decade.

Published since 1904, the Picayune Item circulates five days per week.

CNHI owns two other Mississippi newspapers: The Meridian Star, which is a daily and the Star-Herald, a weekly in Kosciusko.

In Mississippi, Boone owns the Daily Leader in Brookhaven, The Natchez Democrat, the Vicksburg Post and the weekly Prentiss Headlight.
