How the Dow Jones industrial average fared Friday


The Dow Jones industrial average fell after disappointing earnings from Microsoft weighed on technology stocks, offsetting a more upbeat report from General Electric.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 4.80 points, or 0.03 percent, to close at 15,543.74.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 2.72 points, or 0.2 percent, to 1,692.09.

The Nasdaq composite fell 23.66 points, or 0.7 percent, to 3,587.61.

For the week:

The Dow is up 79.44, or 0.5 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 11.90, or 0.7 percent.

The Nasdaq is down 12.47, or 0.4 percent.

For the year so far:

The Dow is up 2,439.60 points, or 18.6 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 265.90 points, or 18.6 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 568.10 points, or 18.8 percent.
