How the Dow Jones industrial average fared Tuesday


The stock market marched back into record territory as investors seized on the latest encouraging news about the economy. On Tuesday, it was a report on the health of small businesses.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 123.57 points, or 0.8 percent, to close at 15,215.25.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 16.57, or 1 percent, to 1,650.34.

The Nasdaq composite index rose 23.82 points, or 0.7 percent, to 3,462.61.

For the week:

The Dow is up 96.76 points, or 0.6 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 16.64 points, or 1 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 26.03 points, or 0.8 percent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 2,111.11 points, or 16.1 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 224.15 points, or 15.7 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 443.10 points, or 14.7 percent.
