Johnson & Johnson rose $.50 or .6 percent, to $77.89.

Eli Lilly & Co. rose $.29 or .5 percent, to $55.37.

Merck fell $.37 or .8 percent, to $43.31.

Pfizer rose $.15 or .5 percent, to $28.27.
