Chafee: EDC nominations coming soon
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Gov. Lincoln Chafee (CHAY'-fee) says he'll make nominations for a new executive director for the Economic Development Corp. and several vacancies on the EDC's board "as soon as possible."
Chafee wouldn't be more specific Tuesday about when he plans to send picks the Senate. The board has been struggling after its decision in 2010 to approve a $75 million state loan guarantee to former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's now-bankrupt video game company 38 Studios.
Chafee's office says the governor will ultimately nominate nine people to open positions, including labor leader George Nee, who already serves on the board and whose term has expired.
Chafee says some are hesitant to serve at EDC because of bad publicity.
He also called 38 Studios "the worst decision in the history of Rhode Island."
