Bing weighing financial emergency appeal options

DETROIT (AP) — Mayor Dave Bing has yet to decide if he'll appeal Gov. Rick Snyder's determination that Detroit is in a financial emergency.

Bing said in a statement Tuesday that he's been meeting with various members of the Detroit City Council and continues to "weigh all available options."

Some on the nine-member council want an appeal made.

Snyder said Friday that he agreed with a review team's report on the city's fiscal condition. That could lead to the appointment of an emergency manager.

Snyder says he has a person in mind for the job.

Detroit has a $327 million budget deficit and more than $14 billion in long-term debt.

The city has until Monday to file an appeal, and a hearing would be held Tuesday.
