News Summary: Target offers to match online prices

NEW YORK (AP) — TARGET'S PLEDGE: Target Corp. is offering to match prices of select online rivals year-round

BUT YOU HAVE TO SPEAK UP: The discounter says it will match prices that customers find on identical products at Amazon.com as well as on the websites of Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Toys R Us and Babies R Us.

WHY NOW?: It was a disappointing holiday shopping season for Target, hurt by stiffer competition from online rivals and stores like Wal-Mart that sold items at lower prices. It also wants to discourage "showrooming" — customers browsing store prices and then go online to buy the same products for less.
