Becton Dickinson buys Safety Syringes

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. (AP) — Medical device maker Becton Dickinson and Co. said Wednesday that it bought Safety Syringes Inc., adding to the products it sells that are intended to keep healthcare workers safer.

Safety Syringes makes prefilled syringes and other items designed to reduce the risk of piercing wounds caused by needle points.

Becton Dickson did not disclose terms of the deal, but said it expects a minimal reduction to its profit in its fiscal year, which ends in September 2013. The Franklin Lakes, N.J., company's guidance for the year remains the same.
