Becton, Dickinson & Co. rose $.60 or .8 percent, to $79.13.

Covidien rose $.46 or .8 percent, to $57.98.

Patterson rose $.23 or .7 percent, to $34.19.

PerkinElmer rose $.26 or .8 percent, to $32.05.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. rose $.40 or .6 percent, to $65.15.

Varian Medical Systems Inc. rose $.84 or 1.2 percent, to $71.78.

Waters rose $.94 or 1.1 percent, to $89.33.
