News Summary: Google Maps reconnects with iPhone

RETURN TRIP: A Google Map app for the iPhone was released Wednesday, much to the relief of people frustrated with the navigation system that Apple Inc. built into the latest version of the mobile operating system that came out nearly three months ago. The Apple maps that replaced Google's technology misplaced landmarks and gave bad directions.

THIS WAY: The new app includes turn-by-by directions, a popular feature missing from the previous version of Google Maps that was built into the iPhone's earlier operating systems.

APP HAPPY: By early Thursday, Google already was the most popular free app for the iPhone.
