How the Dow and other major indexes fared Thursday

Stocks fell on another day when investors paid careful attention to signals from Washington about progress — or lack thereof — in the "fiscal cliff" talks.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 74.73 points, or 0.6 percent, to 13,170.72.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 9.03 point, 0.6 percent, to 1,419.45.

The Nasdaq composite index fell 21.65 points, or 0.7 percent, to 2,992.16.

For the week:

The Dow is up 15.59 points, or 0.1 percent.

The S&P is up 1.38 points, or 0.1 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 14.12 points, or 0.5 percent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 953.16 points, or 7.8 percent.

The S&P is up 161.85 points, or 12.9 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 387.01 points, or 14.9 percent.
