Patterson fell $2.57 or 7.1 percent, to $33.45.

PerkinElmer rose $.39 or 1.3 percent, to $30.97.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. rose $.34 or .6 percent, to $61.75.

Varian Medical Systems Inc. fell $.10 or .1 percent, to $69.01.

Waters rose $.28 or .3 percent, to $83.45.
