NYSE stocks posting largest volume increases


NEW YORK (AP) — A look at the 10 biggest volume gainers on New York Stock Exchange at the close of trading:

Asia Pacific Fund : Approximately 388,500 shares changed hands, a 1,979.3 percent increase over its 65-day average volume. The shares fell $.08 or .8 percent to $10.10.

Central European and Russia Fund Inc. : Approximately 969,000 shares changed hands, a 4,119.3 percent increase over its 65-day average volume. The shares fell $.48 or 1.5 percent to $31.47.

Greater China Fund : Approximately 1,223,300 shares changed hands, a 4,626.1 percent increase over its 65-day average volume. The shares fell $.11 or .9 percent to $11.67.

JF China Region Fund : Approximately 315,800 shares changed hands, a 3,221.5 percent increase over its 65-day average volume. The shares fell $.18 or 1.4 percent to $12.80.

Korea Fund Inc. : Approximately 470,900 shares changed hands, a 2,508.7 percent increase over its 65-day average volume. The shares fell $.59 or 1.5 percent to $37.63.

Mexico Equity & Income Fund : Approximately 355,800 shares changed hands, a 5,239.7 percent increase over its 65-day average volume. The shares rose $.04 or .3 percent to $12.84.

Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Eastern Europe Fund : Approximately 219,000 shares changed hands, a 3,183.0 percent increase over its 65-day average volume. The shares fell $.18 or 1.2 percent to $15.35.

Saratoga Investment Corp. : Approximately 47,200 shares changed hands, a 2,338.7 percent increase over its 65-day average volume. The shares rose $1.64 or 9.0 percent to $19.94.
