Kroger rose $.12 or .5 percent, to $24.88.

Safeway fell $.23 or 1.4 percent, to $16.43.

Supervalu rose $.03 or 1.1 percent, to $2.80.

Whole Foods Market Inc. fell $.25 or .3 percent, to $90.76.
