NEW YORK (AP) — Shares of some top gold companies were down at the close of trading:

Barrick Gold Corp. fell $.59 or 1.6 percent, to $35.29.

Gold Fields fell $.18 or 1.4 percent, to $12.43.

GoldCorp. fell $.58 or 1.3 percent, to $42.81.

Newmont Mining Corp. fell $.52 or 1.1 percent, to $47.19.
