Kroger rose $.29 or 1.2 percent, to $24.83.

Safeway rose $.07 or .4 percent, to $16.48.

Supervalu rose $.03 or 1.0 percent, to $2.90.

Whole Foods Market Inc. rose $1.41 or 1.6 percent, to $91.72.
