SC Ag Dept offering workshops on organic farming

November 08, 2012

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina is offering the state's farmers an opportunity to learn more about organic farming.

The state Department of Agriculture says farmers interested in getting more information on transitioning to organic farming can attend a workshop on Thursday in Charleston. There will also be an opportunity Nov. 29 in Columbia.

The one-day workshops run all day and feature local experts on organic farming who will talk about the organic certification process and requirements. Organizers say they'll also give tips for farm planning and record keeping.

The workshops are hosted by the Carolina Farm Stewardship Association and funded by the agriculture department through the Specialty Crop Block Grant Program.
