Work vs the clock to scoop huge LI debris piles
ISLAND PARK, N.Y. (AP) — As a new storm approaches, construction equipment continues to scoop massive debris piles off the streets of a coastal village on Long Island.
In Island Park on Tuesday, soggy furniture, mattresses and other household objects were being lifted off the street and dumped into tractor-trailer sized garbage trucks.
In neighboring Long Beach, residents have expressed concern that the next round of bad weather could strew their wreckage all over the place.
The streets there are still lined with the entire contents of residents' homes. Some of the piles are taller than people.
