Covidien rose $.18 or .3 percent, to $55.83.

Patterson rose $.32 or .9 percent, to $34.70.

PerkinElmer fell $.02 or .1 percent, to $31.46.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. fell $.02 or percent, to $61.91.

Varian Medical Systems Inc. rose $.24 or .3 percent, to $70.64.

Waters rose $.04 or percent, to $84.78.
