Patterson rose $.03 or .1 percent, to $34.03.

PerkinElmer fell $.08 or .3 percent, to $31.55.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. fell $.03 or percent, to $62.40.

Varian Medical Systems Inc. rose $1.12 or 1.6 percent, to $69.89.

Waters rose $.33 or .4 percent, to $84.52.
