Wyoming Democrat wages lonely congressional fight
CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — The Wyoming Democrat running for the state's lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives knows he's a long shot in this state where Republicans outnumber Democrats better than three to one.
But Chris Henrichsen refuses to quit. The 35-year-old political science instructor has logged thousands of miles in his family's Suburban to meet with Democrats in every corner of this sprawling state.
Henrichsen is pro-gun and Mormon, hardly the typical Democrat. He's trying to turn his lack of support from the national Democratic Party into proof of his own independence as he seeks to defeat incumbent Republican Rep. Cynthia Lummis. She's seeking a third term.
Henrichsen says he knows his chances are slim. But he says that if he stops running, they go from slim to zero.
