News Summary: Feds investigate Jeep engine problem


THE VEHICLE: About 112,000 Jeep Patriot small SUVs from the 2011 and 2012 model years that were sold in the U.S. Another 18,000 were sold in Canada.

THE PROBLEM: Engines can stall without warning at highway speeds. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received a dozen complaints and has started an investigation. One crash was reported with two injuries.

THE FIX: None yet. The U.S. safety agency is asking Chrysler Group LLC, which makes Jeeps, for information about the problem. The investigation could lead to a recall.
