AMMAN, Jordan (AP) — Jordanian police officials say a ceiling collapsed at an Amman mall, prompting a false alarm about an explosion as a panicked crowd ran from the area.
Two police officials say five shoppers have been slightly wounded when the false ceiling under construction in City Mall's indoor entrance collapsed on Friday.
The mall is a posh shopping center in an upscale district in the Jordanian capital.
The officials say scared crowds have initially reported a large explosion rattling the mall, but it turned out to be "a hoax."
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to comment publicly.
A car bomb struck Beirut earlier Friday, killing seven people and sending jitters throughout the region amid tension over Syria's civil war.
